Intent
At Boothstown Methodist Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides pupils with opportunities to develop and extend skills and express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically, evaluate and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art and Design. They will explore ideas and meanings through studying the work of artists and designers from around the world. Pupils will be provided with opportunities to learn about and explore how Art and Design promotes careful observation and an appreciation of the world around us. Our curriculum will encourage pupils to explore how Art and Design both reflect and shape our history and culture.
