Our routines

Our Day in Nursery

We start school at 8:55 am. Our day in Nursery begins with the children hanging up their coat up, putting their school bag away and self-registering independently. We then sit on the carpet ready to go through the visual timetable and familiarise the children with routines of the day.

On a Tuesday morning we have gymnastics with a specialist teacher.

On a Thursday afternoon we have music with Mrs Garfield.

Throughout the day we learn through play and join in flexible topic based learning which is adapted based on the children's interests. Some activities may include mark-making and writing, construction, creative, role-play, small world, mud kitchen, sand and water. All activities are carefully planned to bring on the children’s learning and cater for individual next steps in all 7 areas of learning. Teaching is also delivered through specific targeted play activities, 1:1 activities, small group work and some whole class carpet sessions.

As Nursery settle into the school routine, they start to have more focussed sessions and have 1 phonics and 1 math lesson each day. We have story time every.

We have a snack daily at 10am and fruit at the end of each day.

Curriculum

We learn through a play based topic curriculum and follow the Revised Statutory Early Years Framework, as well as Development Matters.

Phonics is taught using the Read Write Inc scheme.
