Archive - Our time in Nursery!
We had 27 children in our class. Our class teacher was Miss Sloman and our teaching assistants were Mrs Hilton, Mrs Wheeldon and Miss Robinson.
Prior to starting nursery, children receive a home visit. This visit provides an opportunity for you and your child to get to know the staff, talk about the individual child, discuss any particular needs. Settling in to nursery is flexible to meet the child’s needs. We recognise that different children have different ways to be settled and the length of the process may be different, but we work with yourselves as parents to devise an individual strategy together.
Stay and play sessions and staggered entry into nursery helps your child to become familiar with the actual setting and ‘All about me’ sheets assist us in this process.
We start school at 8:55 am. Our day in Nursery begins with the children hanging up their coat up, putting their school bag away and self registering independently. Once all the children are in settled and parents have gone. Then we hear the tambourine and sit on the carpet ready for a carpet session.
After the carpet session, teaching and reading groups start and we access indoor and outdoor provision. We choose activities indoor and outdoor every day, whatever the weather and there are lots of activities to choose from, such as writing, construction, creative, role-play, mud kitchen, sand and water.
We have a snack table that the children are independent using this can be accessed at any point during the morning.
Phonics is taught in groups according to children’s next steps. We teach phonics everyday either directly before dinner with Mrs Hilton, Mrs Wheeldon and Miss Sloman.
Every afternoon we have a fruit snack and a story before we go home.
Other timetabled activities include dance on a Wednesday afternoon in the hall with our specialist dance teacher and music on a Friday afternoon. This is in the hall again and we can play percussion instruments and sing songs.
For nursery children home time is at 3:10 pm. Each child has a password used for pick up.
We have an adult-led focused lesson each day in small groups, and while we are in continuous provision we take part in challenges where we extend our learning independently.
During a typical day the children have a phonics session, maths session and adult led activity where they learn using a multi-sensory approach. These sessions take place in groups to ensure that each child is learning and developing at the appropriate level.
We do Dance on a Wednesday afternoon.
|Our reading days are||Tuesday Red group|
|Wednesday Blue group|
|Thursday Green group|
|Friday Yellow group|
We learn through a play based topic curriculum called The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our learning takes place in both indoor and outdoor settings.
In the final term in Nursery, the Nursery teacher will liaise with the child’s reception teacher. The Nursery teacher will discuss each child's development working towards the early learning goals in order to support a smooth transition to reception.
